Integration of ict in teaching and learning(Blog for the month of November)

The use of electronic gadgets or instrument which perform many activities at a time with rapid speed, making work lot more easier and efficient which saves times, money, provide information, They are very useful for many purposes which can made the life of the people much easier compared to our fore fathers. Over the time, the detection/emerging of maximum electronic devices and gadgets pose risk of personal information and security by cyber crime and enemies.  Therefore, from many of electronic devices available in the world, I securely chose the use of calculator in solving the four operations in Class three Mathematics. The students will be given some questions on the chalkboard. They will solved first without using calculator. Next let the  students cross checked their answers by computing in the calculator. which would confirm their  own answers. Though, the calculation on the device did not exhibit the steps involved, the final answers were displayed correctly. So, the students were electronically educated in using the calculator in a desired manner.

So, I carried out my lesson on 9th October , 2021 during my remedial classes .I have chosen class III Mathematics to teach the topic “Adding Three Digits Numbers with Re-grouping”. Firstly  I demonstrated how to arrange the numbers and then how to add and find the sum on the chalk board. After that I wrote numbers on the board and in groups children were ask to copy the numbers in the book. Then I provided them with mobile (calculator)to find the sum or check the answer. Most  children seems curious, motivated  in using the calculator. What I found was Children without using calculator face difficulty in writing answer, but with introduction of calculator, even low achiever found solving with smiling face and enjoying the lesson.

Future commitment: Although children were very excited to solve using calculator and solve the questions, but on the other hand I noticed solving the questions in groups is very challenging for teacher as teacher need to monitor and control. Since most learners don’t participate actively in given time which I found quite distracting and distressing. In the future if I am to teach the same topic. I will ask individually children to bring calculator respectively for effective learning and delivery of lesson

Integration of ict in teaching and learning(Blog month of October)

Learning is a blend of two types of activity, independent learning and interactive learning. By independent learning mean activities such as reading a book, working with software, listening to a lecture or an audio cassette, watching TV or writing an assignment. Such activities are a major part of any learning, especially in higher education. But most learners cannot succeed on independent activities alone. They also need interactive activities.

In order to control the above mentioned reading activities, I downloaded some short stories relevant to class PP from net. Then, I printed several copies of the story and distributed to students in pairs. In the first 15 minutes I wrote few high frequency on the board and taught the words and then I demonstrated them how to read the text.

Then children were given 10 minutes to read the text in pairs. Further, few interested children were asked to read the text and friends were asked to repeat after him or her (Echo reading). I also recorded their voices  in a smart phone. Later the recorded audio were played in the classroom and the students listened to their own voices. Thus, the students could praise, provide feedback, reinforce, motivate and encourage their friends in enhancing language development and in particular to appreciate oneself.

Future commitment: Although children were very happy to read and listen a story, but it is challenging for teacher as teacher need to be very  vigilant moving here and there to control or gain children's attention. Some hyper children didn't pay attention.
So, I felt that this reading is almost too challenging for lower classes especially with hyper children.

Integration of ict in teaching and learning(Blog month of September)

ICT is impacting on how education is delivered and how students learn in the Bhutanese education system. The integrating of ICT in teaching and learning greatly influence the developmental in acquisition of language digitally.

In brief, the application of ICT can take many forms and has the ability to transform the way teaching and learning occurs. The coexisting use of multimedia and computers permits the development of new pedagogical approaches involving active and interactive learning.

So, I carried out my  lesson on 20th  September the topic ‘ The Parts of the Computer’  in class PP. Firstly I introduced the topic by showing short video on the parts of the computer and its parts. The children were very excited to watch the video clip. All the children were actively watching the  clips without disturbing or making noise.

Then after watching the video I showed the  real objects one by one and told the names, children were asked to repeat the names after me.Then I showed the monitor, keypad, mouse CPU asked children to  names it.

Class PP children  had hands on practice in using the parts. The children were motivated, aroused and maintained interest in doing the tasks. Moreover, they were introduced to the printer, scanner, pan drive and speakers too. The real materials provided the children to explore the environments for observation, exploration and experimentation.

Integration of ict in teaching and learning.Blog 2(August)

With renewed interest in phonics teaching, there is currently a wide range of software available to support early reading using synthetic phonics. Through the use of ICT-based phonics books, clear connections can be made between sounds and letters on a page. Learning to read is a long and difficult process, and many children struggle to concentrate when using books alone – increasing concentration and attention time is a key advantage to ICT. Many children view software differently from ICT – perceiving it to be more exciting. There are lots of audio-based reading schemes now available to schools, many of which offer significant advantages over books. For struggling readers, there are also many software-based reading intervention programs available that can dramatically improve children’s achievement. Some feature speech recognition software and integrated assessment for learning.

So, on 16th  August , 2021 I taught a lesson on the topic “phonics sound”. The skill on focused was use of Teaching learning materials. Children have the knowledge of the sound as children now a days they  watch the video and sounds in the you tube and from the very  beginning of the academic year sounds are introduced. In the first activity I demonstrated or told the sounds using the cards.

In the 2nd activity I showed them video, screened on the wall using the projector, computer and
the two speaker. The children were observing and singing at the same time in line with the video played.

In the 3rd activity I gave card to individual children, then  came  one by one  in front to tell the sounds where friends were watching and giving cheers .  Finally, I played the same video but this time without audio. Here the children were made to sing the song together. Thus, building confidence in singing and using the correct phonics of all the 26 English alphabets. The learning of phonics was successful.

Children showing of cards and telling the sounds.

Conclusion.
As a whole my lesson went very well but, if I were to teach the same lesson on same topic I will make more interesting by using more video clips in various ways.

Reflection on ICT integrated lesson.(Blog 1 July Month)

There are many benefits in using ICT to teach students.  It is generally believed that ICTs can empower teachers and learners, making significant contributions to learning and achievement for teacher to produce and modify resources quickly and easily. It allows access to a wide range of information in various formats and have become essential tools in the classroom. Therefore, I have integrated ICT in teaching math with Class III children.

Firstly, I introduced the topic by recapitulating the previous lesson. Then showed the power point presentation on the topic ‘Arrays’ with its definition, meaning of column and rows with the pictures. After the teachers’ presentation, again pasted the chart on the board and explained the meaning. The children were made to listen, read the ppt slides in groups, individual in the middle of the lesson and asked few questions to children to make learning environment lively, to keep the children active and in the track. The children skimmed through it and looked for responses to the questions in teams and individually as well.

The use of ICT inspired critical thinking, creative thinking and encouraged the development of skills in children that proved vital in the real world. It also saved our time and inspired pupils to learn through fun. The integration of ICT into this activity made it instantly more exciting to the learners, and allowed the development of communication skills. In the classroom, ICT allowed greater opportunities for sustained forms of talking, such as asking and answering questions in the process of discussion. The use of smartphone to capture the photos of the children’s action extended interactivity, and allowed for instant feedback and reflection on the processes involved in talking, both in groups and individually.

ICT enabled new forms of interaction; between learners and materials, learners and teacher and between groups of learners, e.g. student peer teaching and the acknowledgement of children as experts in particular fields. The problem-based learning became possible because of the increased availability of information and avenues of communication.

Computers, software, cameras and a range of ICT devices can all make teaching more effective and more fun for the children. But the number of activities and resources available to teachers is truly huge, and judgments need to be made about when and more importantly why ICT should be used. It should only be used when appropriate: meaning when, and if, it allows the teacher or the children to do something they would not otherwise have been able to do.

Conclusion.

Most of the students participated actively and enjoyed ICT integrated  lesson .Almost all the students  could understand the concept of an Array.
